The Initiative
Renew Big Canoe was a multi-year plan to modernize and maintain critical infrastructure and amenities across the Big Canoe community in North Georgia. The goal was to preserve the community’s character while improving long-term livability and property value through a series of strategic capital upgrades.
Under Big Canoe’s governance structure, projects of this scale required formal approval through a property owner vote. That meant the initiative’s success depended not just on the merits of the plan, but on whether residents felt informed, respected, and confident enough to support it.
The Work
I was brought in to lead the marketing and design aspects of the campaign, working directly with the General Manager and Board of Directors to translate a complex capital plan into materials residents could actually engage with.
Voter Information Packet
Developed a comprehensive packet detailing the scope, costs, and benefits of each proposed project, written to be transparent and accessible to a general community audience.
Presentation and Supporting Materials
Built the PowerPoint presentation used to walk property owners through the full plan, alongside mounted posters for post-presentation discussion and campaign posters distributed throughout the community.
Social Media Campaign
Designed and ran social media ads supporting voter awareness and turnout, keeping the communication consistent in tone and visual identity across channels.
Trust-Focused Messaging
Addressed FAQs, financial implications, and long-term value directly in all materials, with the specific goal of strengthening credibility between the POA and the broader community.
The Result
The community voted to approve the $15M plan. The communication strategy helped property owners feel informed and engaged throughout the process, and the campaign reinforced the POA’s credibility with its residents at a moment when trust in the decision-making process mattered most.
